Power morning it was as I woke by the sounds of the geese next to the lake I camped at over night. It was a bit cold due to the condensation build up but once the sunrise peaked over the trees it warmed up in no time. The sun was glistening the surface of the lake and it made me anxious to get back on the road. I had breakfast, packed my gear and ended up taking off a little after 8:00 a.m.
I finished off PA by climbing its last hill off 23 west and boy was I happy. Maryland waits. I stopped at a 7-eleven where I met Joe, a bike enthusiast who opened up with many questions about what I was doing. We chatted for a bit about bikes, travel and the everyday hustle and bustle. It ended up being an impactful encounter and that’s the great part about being out on the road. Joe travels around town walking and bicycling. He was pronounced dead after going through a windshield during a car accident, only to wake up in the E.R. Joe was a nice guy and glad to have met him.
It was about 4:30 P.M. and I needed to find camp. I stopped at a local shop on the whim to grab a spare tube. There I met Michael who runs the Mokton Café and shop there. He helped me out big time by sharing a nearby campsite and local supermarket all about 10 miles away. I couldn’t thank him enough, we chatted bikes for a while and it was getting late. I grabbed some ice cream before I left and set out to find the trail to the campsite. Much respect and gratitude to Michael and his friend Keith for sharing their local site, helping out and showing me a good time.
